Amen to this! We’ve all got to play the game unfortunately. I’ve written headlines I’ve wanted to then ended up changing them to “One trick that…” style headlines and it’s disheartening. But the lower down the pecking order, the more we have to try to cut through the noise.
Copywriting can be beautiful in its own right, but I’d love to be able to write some obscure, emotive, poetic rambles for the sheer joy of it, but alas I’ve done that before and no one cares. And why would they?
A great and honest article, especially your confessions about being a recovering asshole. I think that’s called getting older :D
