No offence as you wrote this to get people angry, but my goodness I’ve never read more nonsense in my life.
I work remotely. I’ve also worked for 19 years in actual offices. Remote work absolutely destroys all other options. It’s not even close how much better it is for mental health, productivity, happiness.
Why would I get up 2 hours earlier, spend £5k a year on travel, work in a noise and unproductive open plan office, eat Pret a Mange and wear a suit every day when I could do none of those things and do my job the same, if not better at home?
It’s about two things 1) Big corporations don’t know how to work remotely. The CEOs (who often work remotely themselves) want to control their staff and have them micromanaged. And 2) Corporate real estate value is down the pan since the pandemic and they want return on their investment.
It has zero to do with “collaboration”.
