Thanks for writing. An easy and informative read.
A word of caution to all however, is that sometimes a book comes to our focus at the right time, and therefore it can be great, and if it’s at the wrong time, it can appear poorly written, or boring.
I’ve read quite a few a of these books in your list. When I read ‘The Subtle Art…’ I was already in a good place, way down the personal development journey and it seemed basic and stitched together from blog post ideas. But I bet if I was new to personal development it would have been amazing.
‘7 Habits…’ I found the worst, driest kind of prescriptive textbook. It bored me silly and essentially was applicable to the corporate world (I felt like I was in a training room) and for that reason, I loathe it.
My point is these texts work for different people in different ways.
I don’t know whether we can “rank” art (this reminds me of Robin Williams diatribe in Dead Poets Society about ranking poetry on a graph), but this isn’t a criticism. You’ve offered up your truth and I appreciate the information.
I’m definitely going to read ‘Ego…’ by Holiday next. This article has reminded me. So thanks. 🙏🏼
