The David Solomon article you reference spends a lot of time discrediting his view of the office being a magical place to solve work problems. I worked in offices for 19 years. All the problems still existed. Mostly, CEOs and management are older and they don’t understand how younger people work - or want to work. But they do not trust them, want control and can’t believe hard work doesn’t involve sitting quietly at a desk for 8 hours (or more). There’s more at play here than wanting “the best” for collaboration and career development or whatever. Do you trust what the CEO of Goldman Sachs says, with its never ending list of financial scandals? I don’t.
