We’re a similar age. I also grew up in the London suburbs. I also lived with a violent and unpredictable adult. This article really struck home.
Especially that quote. You were pro texting and enabling him. And that is what abuse is. We all co-enable the abuser through fear and because it’s what has always been done. Then we also assume responsibility even if we’re on the receiving end.
I had a lot therapy about my upbringing in my late 30’s and it sounded like you had a real breakthrough here. That’s great.
It’s funny how you carry around these traumas and believe you’re ok for years, until you realise you’re not ok and it’s seeped into every area of your life. At lest it did for me. But it sounds like you’re well on the path to healing.
It’s fascinating that NLP helped so much, but also makes sense. I guess it’s a form of CBT in a way.
